Manager I, Engineering - Fabric RPC

The Fabric RPC team is responsible for providing secure, reliable, cost-efficient, performant and easy-to-use service to service communication. The RPC libraries that our team provides are used by every developer in Datadog and they power all our products and services.
We’re looking for an engineering manager to help us lead & expand the efforts of our RPC team. You will own the strategic direction and roadmap for tooling and services that power our networking stack and simplify delivery while increasing velocity of teams across Datadog.

What You’ll Do:
- Lead and cultivate a team of engineers, including performance management and career development.
- Shape and drive the direction of RPC strategy at Datadog.
- Collaborate with our most senior engineers, product managers, and external stakeholders to plan, prioritize, and design the continued development of our platform.
- Plan the most important projects to work on next while striking a delicate balance between investment in reliability/performance, continued development of the platform, and long-term R&D.
- Run OKR process to define and align team’s quarterly goals with the needs of the business and community
- Lead technical and architectural discussions to better understand challenges and problems faced by our team and the engineering community.
Who You Are:
- You have formally managed for a team of software engineers
- You have experience driving delivery in a fast paced, high growth distributed environment.
- You have significant back end programming experience and have architected, built, and operated distributed systems to solve problems at scale.
- You are pragmatic when it comes to solutions and technology.
- You have a BS/MS/PhD in a Computer Science, Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent professional experience.
- Bonus: You have practical experience or a strong understanding of traffic management techniques, such as load balancing, load shedding, circuit breaking and rate limiting - as applied to distributed RPC systems.
